Jewel Records - Custom 900 Series & More

~ Return to the numerical listing of the Jewel label. ~

Rusty York's Jewel label was the house label of his Jewel Recording Studio in Mt. Healthy, a northwest suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. Rusty performed actively through the late 50's and early 60's but by 1965 he decided to cut back on live performances in the Cincinnati club scene and concentrate on making his Jewel Recording Studio a success. As a result, the studio output increased significantly around this time. In addition to the Jewel label, Rusty formed several subsidiary labels such as Teen, Log Cabin, RYE (Rusty York Enterprises) and occasionally issued recording on clients own labels. He used several numbering systems over the years starting with a 100 and then a 400 series. After a short 900 series in 1965-66 he jumped to a 700 series which eventually ran back into the 900's causing confusion with repeated numbers. In 1975 he switched to a system that used the first two digits of the year (75) followed by two more digits to represent the order of release. He continued that numbering system well into the 1980's.

At the end of 1966 it appears they jumped from J. D. Jarvis' release on Jewel 930 to Lois Kaye's release on Jewel 731. This began a long series that ran from 731 through 1077. This series had some duplication of release numbers in the 780's and 790's and a gap of unused numbers between 800 and 881.

1967 to 1974 - Here's a detailed listing from numbers 731 through 1001:
